NSW may be just the first state organization to favour federal consolidation.

Yachting NSW President, Geoff Davidson says YNSW has become 'less financially viable' and is preparing to close its Homebush headquarter and its separate activities in NSW. The responsibilities will be moved to Yachting Australia's offices at St Leonards.

Disagreements over collection and allocation of membership fees is one of the key contributors to this development, according to Davidson. As a result, Yachting NSW does not have the funds it needs to operate its major programs – the youth program, coaching program, development program and participation committee (which encourages people to get in to the sport of sailing and joining clubs).

For now, the services and requirements that the YNSW Board has set, will be subcontracted to the member clubs in NSW.

Other states are considering a purely federal model. Will a more effective use of funds and program talent make up for the lack of local focus?
