Dredging of the Channel past Lobster Beach complete!

- but will it last?

The work started 7 December, after some delay, clearing the channel from Little Box Head, past Lobster Beach and through the channel to Half Tide Rocks.

As Gosford Sailing Club Sailors well know the channel had become so narrow and so shallow, that the passage of our larger boats through to Broken Bay has become severely restricted, and for many, an obstacle too limiting to even attempt on a regular basis.

But in the end the decision was made to get the work done, - State and Local Government split the cost, and the work is now done.

Not a day too soon!

Have you been wondering where Bob Swan has been hiding lately?

Well, the mystery has been solved, - Bob has been off on a secret assignment which kept him VERY busy. At least we now know what Santa does to relax after the hectic season.

You may also recognise Stafan Bjarne. His boat Juliana featured prominently in Brisbane Water a few years ago, before he sold her and left for a world trek on board his new boat Juliana II.

Americas Cup is back in the USA.  BMW Oracle Racing wins the 33rd Americas Cup challenge in Valencia, Spain with two straight - and convincing - wins.
The racing was fascinating, but with few moments of excitement, and long, boring chases.

Alinghi foun herself in trouble before the start in both races, carrying a penalty over the sart line, but in the end, it made no difference, with BMW Oracle Racing crossing the finish line several minutes ahead of Alinghi, even before the penalty turn.

And the challenge under the Deed of Gift rules has already been registered, with the Italian "Team Mascalzone Latino" from Club Nautico di Roma as the accepted challenger.

Final Day of Championship Racing

After a windless, miserable day of no racing on 2 January, the 46th Australian Sabot Championships had an exciting 3-race day to determine the winners. Gosford now has a pair of new national sailing champions, with Sophie McIntosh and Jordan Makin winning the junior division of the 46^th Australian Sabot Championships on Brisbane Water.

And the pair in Double Diamond are also celebrating a third placing in the senior division to teammate Vardon Robson in Thunderstruck. James Brewer from Southern NSW swept past leaders Victorian Oliver Kalpokas and Gosford’s Vardon Robson to win the Senior Division, thanks to two wins in the final day’s three races. The week-long competition involved 63 seniors and 36 juniors.

South Queensland dominated the parallel Sabot Week regatta, winning both the Senior and Junior Divisions.

UK-Halsey Rules Quiz

UK-Halsey is a sail maker, and they have developed an animated sailing rules Quiz to help make people aware of the racing rules (as well as their products). This quiz is offered as an experiment, to see how our members like it. It is not an endorsement of the company's product, and they are not a sponsor of our club.

It is a good approach to understanding the racing rules, and will hopefully enable our sailors to avoid any misunderstandings and safety issues in our racing activities.

We will keep this on our website for a while, and look for your comments before deciding to either keep it or remove it. Please send me an e-mail with your comments, - and whether or not you would like to see it continue.
